Things about myself

Hi there! My name’s Manipushpak Gupta and I’m a freshman studying Computer Science/Business Administration. For my medium post, I’ve decided to answer some questions — that I get often and not so often — about myself. Hope you like it!

Q. Where do you wanna be in 10 years?

Ans. 10 years is a long time. Well, since my primary interests right now are data science, machine learning and entrepreneurship, I hope to have found the right combination of all — or some — of these things in 10 years. I like data science because I feel it has a lot of untapped potential in it, and the value we can get from interpreting the vast amount of data produced everywhere, is immense. I like machine learning because it is, quite frankly, amazing. It is, in a sense, a watered down version of artificial intelligence but without all the ethical questions and the debates. Development in this field can be made more easily and the implications are very wide ranging. And lastly, entrepreneurship because I feel that there’s so many great ideas that can be developed with the resources around us, and I want to do exactly that.

Q. What’s the most important thing you have learnt from traveling?

Ans. The number 1 thing that I’ve learnt from traveling has been the understanding of how things work in different contexts, or in other words, a multidimensional perspective. I’ve been fortunate enough to have travelled to many countries and cultures around the world and the one thing that has been common is how differently things work in different cultures. Be it from the way people interact with each other or how they behave to what routines they follow or what dance moves they have up their sleeves, there’s many aspects that change from culture to culture, and to have an understanding of those is really crucial.

Q. What’s the number one thing on your bucket list?

Ans. Cliche but I’ll say it — skydiving. I’m a thrill seeker who loves adventure sports. I have gone bungee jumping in Thailand and have parasailed over the Indian ocean, and nothing gets me more excited than to think about jumping out of a plane, rocketing towards the earth at > 100 mph.

Q. What’s the most interesting thing you’ve ever eaten?

Ans. Frog legs. No, they don’t taste like chicken, nor they taste like anything else you might’ve ever had in your life. They just taste like frog legs, and the taste is not that pleasant.

Q. What’re your favorite cuisines and why?

Ans. I love Indian and Italian food. I’m a person who loves flavorful and spicy food and those cuisines give me just the right amount of that.
