Jessica Davis, a senior editor from InformationWeek wrote an interesting and insightful article on ‘’Pioneers Creating Infrastructure for Self-Sovereign Identity Online’’. In her article, she highlighted that many organisations are collecting our data. However, there are no standard rules set on how such data is managed. In turn, she raised two intriguing questions, ‘’Do you own your own personal data about yourself?’’, ‘’Can you even control it or know what’s out there?’’

These two questions boil down to the topic on ‘’internet identity — who are you on the internet?’’. Are you who you are in your online profile? Banking details? Licenses? State records? Educational certificates and credentials? Given all these personal data, does it define who you are or what did you do? It has come to a point where our real-world identities have intermingled with virtual identities creating a complex and fuzzy situation in our society.

Beside managing your many online identities, Jessica also mentioned ‘’the big question — who owns and control them?’’.

Hence, the ambiguity revolving around the issues on identity control and management has led to the escalation on self-sovereign identity. As cited from the article, ‘’Several organizations are assembling the technologies to enable self-sovereign identity, a way for individuals to control who they are online.’’. This self-sovereign identity concept is made possible as blockchain technology has become one of the essential components to create it.

Usechain improves on the concept of self-sovereign identity by integrating blockchain technology with mirror identity protocol that will bring a brand-new definition to the value of identity. This unique protocol uses identity address mapping to ensures that the identity off-chain remain anonymous and privately secured, only the address will be mapped on the blockchain. This will establish a multi-level correspondence mechanism between the addresses on-chain and the authenticated user entities, as only the mapping relationship is recorded on-chain while other private information is undisclosed.

It corresponds with what Jessica stated in her article, an ideal scenario using self-sovereign identity where ‘’you have an easy, secure, verifiable way to communicate only the relevant pieces of your identity and credentials to specific entities, such as your bank, your prospective employer, or your government.’’. This relate to what Usechain is doing. The objective to develop the first mirror identity protocol targeting at ensuring identity security and maintaining users’ data privacy.

Furthermore, the article emphasis on ‘’The rules and the infrastructure of Internet identity’’ that are needed to be set in place to facilitate healthy and progressive growth of the self-sovereign identity ecosystem. Usechain is planning to incorporate the use of mirror identity protocol into a wide range of commercial applications, creating an environment for users to communicate freely, where private information can be integrated with blockchain technology without having their privacy or security being compromised.

The current identity and data system have encountered many problems. Usechain understands these problems clearly and has set its mission to resolve them. Combining the team’s expertise with its unique and innovative technology, Usechain is pioneering the development of the first Mirror Identity blockchain that will change the future of self-sovereign identity and define the value of internet identity.
