The dismantling process is slow and requires time to remove each and every part step by step keeping in mind the national and international resale price of the particular part.
When the ship approaches the dismantling yard, first the manually removable equipments are removed like deck equipments, bridge equipments and navigational equipments, generators, store room equipments and spares etc. Major parts which require space to be removed like big engines or parts, machinery etc are removed later once the dismantling of the particular part starts or reached certain point where the machinery or equipment can be easily removed without any damage.
The machinery, equipments, books; spares are sold in bulk by ship breakers. Interested customers either pay lump sum or as per selected units. The sourcing agents around the globe bids for lump sum purchase of lots from ship breakers. The lots purchased by agents or company transported to the nearby yards for required servicing and if required replacement or maintenance. One the engine or generator is tested by the processional engineers team, its ready for dispatch to respective customers.
The engines or generators which can’t be repaired are dismantled for recovering spare parts. These parts being original and reliable are more in demand and fetches good prices in national and international market. These used recovered parts are reconditioned by skilled engineers and tested before supplying to customers.
Unused spare parts are also recovered from ship stores, available with or without their packing. These engine parts are those parts which would have been stocked on ship for regular maintenance purpose for the engines and generators onboard. These unused parts are mostly regular maintenance parts like sealing, piston rings, packing, valves, injectors, pumps, etc.
