It’s time to stop using traditional rental deposits

Keyhole wants to enable tenants, so they get easy access to their dream rental residence without laying down a large upfront deposit. In Denmark more than an estimated 23 mia. DKK is tied up in residential security deposits, and a similar amount of cash is locked away for prepaid rent. A large sum that is just waiting to get back into tenants wallets.

Keyhole wants to remove the stress and uncertainty that lies between tenants and landlords in the exhausting moving process. In short, we aim for a much better renting experience for everyone involved, so that trust and security can rise to new heights.

We’re on a great mission to give tenants their own money back into their wallets, so they can use it for whatever they want. This is particularly helpful in today’s booming rental market where even more chooses to rent their homes than ever before, and where move-in cost are just skyrocketing. Keyhole is created to give a proper alternative.

Tenants

Today, tenants has two options when moving into a new rental residence. They can choose to pay a large security deposit. Which equals up to 3x the monthly rent. Furthermore many landlords also take between 1–3x of prepaid rent. A massive amount of upfront cash that can go unused for years, thus giving the tenants cash a zero-to-none interest, and an uncertainty of the remaining deposit when moving out.

For people who can’t or won’t put down the up to 6x monthly rent can look for alternatives in the form of expensive loans. A solution that amplifies the negative effect on tenants liquidity even further, with the cost of interest, fees and fixation, not to say the negative impact a loan can have on the person’s economy in the future.

Landlords

The landlord has a lot of administration work in regards to handling the moving process, hereunder the aspects of a deposit. They need to master the communication in regards to finance, contracts, money transfers, sensitive data, moving in/out inspection, maintenance and more. Keyhole wants to digitalize the aspects of the deposit, and thus helping landlords to decrease their working overhead.

Furthermore, Keyhole wants to give landlords the maximum security in regards to violations, which is why landlords can choose to be insured up to the maximum legal deposit and prepaid rent limits. This means coverage of up to 6 months worth of rent, and simply a hole new level of financial security for landlords.

Bringing you the future of rental

Keyhole is changing the rental game by replacing the traditional deposit with a small monthly membership fee. A fee which enable us to cut down the cost of your new home significantly. This means easier access to greater homes, and more money to spend on, well, whatever. The latter reason is also why Keyhole isn’t a loan. We want to financially empower tenants, not add debt. We will vouch for tenants, so that everyone involved can feel secure.

Our solution is aimed at urban dwellers that chooses Netflix over cable-tv, focuses on flexibility contra price, appreciate delightful experiences contra just-get-it-done, utilizing rental or leasing services vs. owning things. In other words — convenience, transparency and ease of use is the key goals for the Keyhole platform.

Landlords can be fully insured — up to 6x the monthly rent— while tenants all the time keeps the full responsibility for damages and violations, exactly as they have today. On move out, landlords simply fill out a claim to give financial transparency for tenants. Tenants gets the claim overview and an easy option to pay for the refurbishing directly through the Keyhole platform.

This is just the beginning — we will continue to enhance the flexibility for tenants, and at the same time increase the security for landlords.

The rental future is bright. Welcome to Keyhole!
