Finding sample sheets for Datastream in Excel
Looking for curated, dynamic sets of data including Economic, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG)

Sample sheets (or templates) can be used to download a curated set of data about one particular equity, economic indicator or sector at a time. They are found in the Excel ribbon under ‘Datastream > Request Table > Sample Sheets’. Scroll to sheet you want, tick it, then click ‘Download & Open’.
Please note, the sample sheets download to a hidden folder (not very helpful!). This is C:\ProgramData\datastream\datastream advance\User\
— type it in the Windows Explorer address bar.
Use the buttons, tick boxes and drop-down menus within a sample sheet to control it. Usually, a button labelled ‘Go’ or similar will update the other sheets.
Note, any data you download via a sample sheet can also be obtained via a regular Datastream request. If you find a particular datatype you want to use for different entities, make a note of its code.
There is further, more detailed guidance on using ASSET4 sample sheet on our blog.
Work at a larger scale or customise your retrieval with a Request Table
If you want to plan a custom structured or larger scale download, use a Request Table. Details of how to use these are in the PDF User Guide (‘Datastream > Help > User Guide’) or the ASSET 4 training video. To view the ASSET 4 training video you will need to provide your name and University email address.
