JHS mathletes reap awards in MTAP Math Challenge; Grade 10 advances to regionals

Junior High School Legazpi Thomasians bagged awards in the 2018 Metrobank MTAP DepEd Math Challenge Division Team Finals held on February 9 at Pag-asa National High School, with the team from grade 10 advancing to the regional finals
Gabrielle Jackie Candano and Jon Michael Mollasgo, composing the team from grade 10, placed first in the division orals and will be representing Legazpi division for the regionals, scoring a total of 50 points out of 60, comprised of three rounds: easy, average, and difficult. Grade 8 students, David Kyle Picart and Carl Ernest Sinogba also ranked first with a score of 34 points.
Coming in second place was the team of Sophia Lee and Lance Velasco from grade 7. Grade 9 students, Victor Yu and Roxanne Picart, won third place.
Representing the General Curriculum, the team of grade 8, composed of Charles Calima and Lara Sabio, came fourth in the said competition.
For the individual elimination held on January 29, Sophia Lee (grade 7), Victor Yu (grade 9), and Gabrielle Jackie Candano (grade 10) were awarded first honors, scoring 46, 45, and 50, respectively. Moreover, David Kyle Picart (grade 8), Roxanne Aimee Picart (grade 9), and Julia Berin (grade 9) won third honors.
The participants were coached by Mr. Jumar Bona, Mr. Jimmy Bio Jr., Mrs. Enjoy Jelyn Nasayao, Mr. Archie Brutas, Ms. Jeanalyn Brosa, Ms. Julie Ann Alarzar, Ms. Janine Mae Limjoco, Ms. Marlet Bongat, and the JHS Mathematics Department head, Ms. Michelle Barbacena.
