East and West came together to launch uTalk’s new Tibetan language app on Tibetan New Year’s Day (Tues Feb 5).

Producer and actress, Trudie Styler, wife of pop star Sting joined hands with a Tibetan child at the Tibetan Peace Garden in South London to mark the occasion.

Speaking about the app, Trudie Styler, who is a long-time supporter of Tibet and the exiled Dalai Lama, says: “I am sure the Dalai Lama is going to be absolutely pleased about it.

“I think what the Dalai Lama would see is that if you immerse yourself into a language, any language, you become more tolerant, you understand more and you understand the depth and breadth of the challenges of that society,” she adds.

The Tibetan language spoken on the app is the most common Tibetan dialect.

Tibet is sometimes nicknamed ‘the roof of the world’ because of the high altitude of the region.
