Threads App, Is It A Fad or Trend?
Threads, a Twitter-like platform by Meta, launched on July 5, 2023. Despite its unavailability in Europe for privacy concerns, it has already earned over 100 million users in 5 days.
But is it the new cool or is it just hype? I signed up to find out.
First impressions
Threads is very similar to Twitter in terms of its core functionality. Both apps allow users to share short messages, photos, and videos with their followers. A lot of people have been referring to the fact that Threads also looks like an early version of Twitter circa 2011–2014 for its simplicity.
Signing up is fast and easy if you’re already an Instagram user. With two clicks, your Threads account is created. This is one of the main reasons why the Twitter-like app has onboarded millions of users in such a short period of time. it would’ve been different if it’s a completely independent application.
The app feels rushed, it doesn’t offer much advantage over Twitter, and it crashes when you do certain actions. The lack of differentiation could make it difficult for Threads to keep attracting and retaining users, as there is no clear reason why they should use Threads instead of Twitter.
