FM Signal Generator and Processing Circuit Using CA3046

The IC (Integrated Circuit) CA3046 is used as discrete transistors in conventional circuits. The amplification of the signal units in this modern world to transmit high extent with negligible losses is carried out by connecting pair of differential transistors. Most of the processing signal generators are designed with custom CA3046 integrated IC’s. It costs low and works effectively with its high performance and speed. Custom Designed Differential Amplifiers and Temperature Compensated Amplifiers are some of the applications carried out with CA3046. Let’s understand it from the base.

CA3046 description:

CA3046 is additive and formed with the combination of 5 NPN transistors. In which the differential two NPN transistors are coupled to form the connected pair. This type of transistors (CA3046) is highly used in the applications of audio VHF range frequencies. It can also be used as the discrete components for the modern fabricated design conventional circuits. The physical appearance of CA3046 is shown below in the fig 1.

Pin configuration and Specifications of CA3046:

CA3046 IC comes with a 14 Pin configuration setup. We can identify the pin specification from the image given below (fig-2)

Pin 1–5: From pin 1–5 is a differential pair

Pin 6: This pin is used as a clock pulses input

Pin 7: This pin is output phase from CA3046

Pin 13: This pin is substrate pin of CA3046

Pin 8–12: These pins are phased out pins of CA3046

C3046 Applications:

· They are mostly used in VHF range with the three isolated transistors connected for the lower power consumption.

· Custom Designed Differential Amplifiers

· Temperature Compensated Amplifiers

tools you will need while performing can be Soldering iron, iron stand, nose pillar, flux and cutters.

Procedure:

1. Arrange the components with respect to the circuit diagram

2. Solder the parts carefully on the PCB with the proper ends connection

3. Connect the IC CA3046 on the bread board or PCB and see the pin configuration carefully

4. Connect the power supply to the circuit

5. Vary the signal generator frequencies for variable outputs

6. By changing the FM signal generator frequency output changes and clock pulses applied for this apparent change

Working and Operation:

The delay output from the CA3046 IC is carried out with the pulse input from the signal generator and output is obtained at the end. We can change the delayed input with the help of variable resistors and coarse frequency output is evaluated.
