The article is about the three types of TOPSwitch-GX Family. TOP244PN, TOP244YN, TOP246YN are those three types. These TOPSwitch are cost-effectively integrating the high voltage power MOSFET, PWM control, fault protection onto a CMOS chip. Its an SMPS chip that converts a current at the control input to the duty cycle. This process is held at the open-drain output of the high voltage power MOSFET. With the extended power range for higher power, it has the main feature of frequency lowered with load for high standby efficiency. It also allows shutdown and wakeup via LAN port.

The operation of the three chips is almost the same the main difference is the package type.

The above pictures are the TOP Switches they do almost the same work but their packaging type is the only difference.

The below circuit shows the working areas of this TOP Switches, these are mainly used as the high power switches in the circuits .

It is clearly seen that the switches are used in the circuit properly with the proper circuit rules such that the circuit hazards can be avoided.

  • This device provides line feed-forward with maximum duty cycle.
  • The switches also provide Frequency jittering reduces EMI and EMI filtering costs.
  • The circuits also regulate to zero loads without dummy loading.
  • The larger thermal hysteresis prevents PC board overheating.

These switches are extremely energy efficient as well.

Causes for the Energy efficiency

  • This device consumes extremely low power in case of remote off mode.
  • The frequency can be lowered with load for high standby efficiency.
  • The devices also provide shutdown or wake up mechanism via the Local Area Network (LAN) input ports.
