Here are step-by-step guides on how to bridge your UTU Coin between Ethereum and BSC using Meter Passport.

Note: This post has been updated to include 1) the fact that both directions of the bridge now being fully functional, and 2) information about Meter’s subsidy program.

Hello UTU Trust Guardians!

As you may know, we partnered with Meter and used their cross-chain bridge to port UTU Coin on Ethereum to Binance Smart Chain (BSC).

Then we listed UTU on Pancakeswap.

You can now use Meter Passport, Meter’s bridge application, to port your UTU on Ethereum to BSC 1-to-1, and vice versa. You’ll then be able to trade UTU on BSC or add liquidity to our UTU-BNB pool on PancakeSwap.

This post includes tutorials on how to use the bridge in both directions, as well as preliminary information about Meter’s subsidy program for users of their bridge.

How to port UTU on Ethereum to BSC

  1. We will use MetaMask for this tutorial, and the first thing you need to do is add BSC to your MetaMask wallet. Here’s a tutorial from Binance, but we’ll go over how to do so below as well.

a. Open MetaMask on your browser and make sure you’re on Ethereum Mainnet. Click on the icon in the upper right corner to view your accounts, and then click “Settings”.

b. In the Settings menu, scroll down and click on “Networks”.

c. Enter the following information in the fields that appear, then scroll down and click “Save”:

d. The network you just added, “Smart Chain”, will show up in the list of networks that your MetaMask wallet can connect to, as you can see below. Don’t click on this or any other network; let’s stay on the Ethereum network for now.

2. Head over to https://passport.meter.io/transfer and connect your Metamask wallet to the Meter Passport application. Make sure you have the UTU you want to port to BSC and at least 0.05 ETH (to pay for the bridge fee and Ethereum gas fees, which are very high) in your wallet.

3. When the transfer screen appears, make sure it says “Ethereum” in the “From” section (which it should if you didn’t change networks in MetaMask). If it does, move on to the next step. If it doesn’t (which means you switched networks), go back to MetaMask, click on the network drop down menu again, and select “Ethereum Mainnet”.

4. Go back to Meter Passport. The “To” field will likely say “Meter Mainnet”. Click on the network drop down arrow and select “BSC Mainnet” from the menu.

5. Now go back to the “From” section, click on the drop down arrow and select UTU from the asset menu. Then enter the amount of UTU you would like to port to BSC. The asset and the amount will both auto-populate in the “To” section.

6. The “I want to send funds to my address” is checked by default. If you want to send funds to your corresponding wallet address on BSC, leave this box checked (recommended for simplicity). If you want to send funds to a different wallet on BSC, uncheck the box and enter the destination wallet address in the address field that appears.

7. If everything looks good, click the “Start transfer” button.

8. A “pre-flight check” will appear with some final statements. If you are OK with the statements, click the “Start transfer” button. If not, click “Back” to return to the Transfer screen.

9. The transfer will then initialize, and MetaMask will ask you to pay ETH gas fees and confirm the transaction. Hit the “Confirm” button.

10. After the transaction is confirmed on both blockchains, you’ll need to add UTU to your BSC wallet in MetaMask to see and access it. Here’s how to do so.

a. In MetaMask, click on the network drop down menu and click on “Smart Chain”. This switches all of your wallets from the Ethereum network over to the BSC network.

b. Navigate to the wallet to which you sent the UTU you ported (it should be your current wallet if you didn’t change anything), click on the “Assets” tab, and click “Add Token”.

c. Under the “Custom Token” tab, enter the UTU token address — 0xed4Bb33F20F32E989AF975196E86019773A7CFf0 — into the “Token Contract Address” field. The other fields should auto-populate. Click “Next”.

d. MetaMask will then confirm that you would like to add the token. Click “Add Tokens”.

e. UTU will then be added to your wallet, and you should see the amount of UTU Coin you ported.

There you go! You’ve ported UTU from Ethereum to BSC and can now take part in the BSC DeFi ecosystem.

How to port UTU on BSC to Ethereum

The BSC->Ethereum direction of the bridge is now live! Please read this blog post for important information about this direction of the bridge and why its launch was delayed.

Here’s how to port UTU on BSC to Ethereum:

  1. In MetaMask, make sure you are on the Smart Chain network.

2. Head over to https://passport.meter.io/transfer and connect your Metamask wallet to the Meter Passport application. Make sure you have the UTU you want to port to Ethereum and at least 0.3 BNB in your wallet to pay the bridge and gas fees.

3. In Meter Passport, in the “From” section, the network should say “BSC Mainnet”. Click on the drop down arrow and select UTU from the asset menu. The asset will auto-populate in the “To” section.

4. Enter the amount of UTU you would like to port to Ethereum. This amount will auto-populate in the “To” section.

5. The “I want to send funds to my address” is checked by default. If you want to send funds to your corresponding wallet address on BSC, leave this box checked (recommended for simplicity). If you want to send funds to a different wallet on BSC, uncheck the box and enter the destination wallet address in the address field that appears.

6. If everything looks good, click the “Start transfer” button.

7. A “pre-flight check” will appear with some final statements. If you are OK with the statements, click the “Start transfer” button. If not, click “Back” to return to the Transfer screen.

8. The transfer will then initialize, and MetaMask will ask you to pay BNB gas fees and confirm the transaction. Hit the “Confirm” button.

9. After the transaction is confirmed on both blockchains, you’ll need to add UTU to your Ethereum wallet in MetaMask to see and access it. Here’s how to do so.

a) In MetaMask, make sure you are on the Ethereum network. Then navigate to the wallet to which you sent the UTU you ported (it should be your current wallet if you didn’t change anything), click on the “Assets” tab, and click “Add Token”.

b) Under the “Custom Token” tab, enter the UTU on Ethereum token address — 0xa58a4f5c4Bb043d2CC1E170613B74e767c94189B — into the “Token Contract Address” field. The other fields should auto-populate. Click “Next”.

c) MetaMask will then confirm that you would like to add the token. Click “Add Tokens”.

UTU will then be added to your wallet, and you should see the amount of UTU Coin you ported.

Information about Meter’s subsidy program

If you use Meter’s bridge to port UTU between Ethereum and BSC (retroactive to the launch of Meter Passport) you will receive a subsidy in a combination of MTR (Meter’s metastable gas token) and MTRG (their governance token).

Here is the key information about the subsidy:

  • Every address that uses the bridge gets 30% reimbursement on the first 3 bridge transfers.
  • The reimbursement will be paid in a combination of MTR (Meter’s metastable gas token) and MTRG (Meter’s governance token. The combination will be based on foundation reserves, and will be paid at the exchange rate at the time of reimbursement.
  • Reimbursements will begin on June 8th, will be retroactive to the launch date of Meter Passport, and will be paid out daily.
  • To qualify for the reimbursement, the “from” and “to” addresses on the source and destination addresses have to be the same (the default option for Meter Passport).

Meter will continue to evolve the program based on feedback and maintains the right to make immediate changes under extraordinary circumstances. To read all the details about the subsidy program, click here.
