From assisting with mass casualty incidents to streamlining funding for NPOs, Blueprint is tackling a variety of projects this winter term. As we settle-in after the winter break, our team of students are gearing up to take on four projects from January to April. Read more about our partnerships and the kind of work our project teams will be focusing on below!

Paramedics

About the NPO: The Region of Waterloo Paramedic Services serves the Waterloo community and strives to provide fast, life-saving medical care to those in need.

Our team is assisting with mass casualty incident procedures — ensuring that amidst the chaos of these events, paramedics can still efficiently and effectively provide medical attention to injured individuals. We will be designing and building an iPad application for use during these incidents as well as a web application to provide supervisors with an overview of all activity.

Project Lead: Peter Song

Business Education Partnership

About the NPO: Business Education Partnership is an organization in the Kitchener-Waterloo region that aims to create learning opportunities for students by connecting them to local employers and industry professionals.

Blueprint is partnering with BEP to revamp their site and matching platform, allowing teachers, volunteers and school representatives to be able to create profiles and make requests for events in the hopes to increase accessibility for students.

Developers: Alan Xie, Sara Fong, Austin Jiang, Alex Xie and Gabe Richard

Designers: Grace Ma, Joslyn Tsui

Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region

About the NPO: Social Venture Partners Waterloo Region is an organization that provides funding to local charities and non-profits in the Waterloo region through matching appropriate applicants to organization.

As a returning project for Blueprint, the SVP team is working on building an application designed to streamline and remove biases in the decision-making process. With 43 chapters of SVP around the world, members of the team are exploring ways to scale the app to support all chapters.

Social Development Centre

About the NPO: Another one of our returning projects for this term is The Social Development Centre! SDC focuses on helping individuals and families find social service information in the Waterloo region. Blueprint has been working on creating a platform to address three focus areas:

  • Health Services
  • Tenant Rights
  • Senior Financial Services

Through building intuitive and accessible flowcharts, the SDC team strives to empower and improve quality of life for community members with better access to social services.

UW Blueprint is a student run club that provides top-tier tech for non-profit organizations. Founded at the University of Waterloo in 3 years ago, we could not have provided strong partnerships with NPO’s without the dedication, passion, and time of our members. This blog features content from various Blueprint members, from all areas of experience within our organization.

We’re always looking to partner with NPOs who carry the same values! If interested, please send an inquiry to info@uwblueprint.org.
