Trying to Make it Work

Hailing from Israel, Simply Vika is a new artist in Los Angeles whose work encompasses equal rights, women empowerment, and self-growth. In the past months, she’s dropped two songs titled Stigma, and more recently, I’m Trying. “My goal as an artist is to inspire young women to understand they are equal, and not let anyone tell them they are less.”

At the age of 18, it’s mandatory for Israeli citizens to join the military, and Vika aimed to be a part of the combat force, often understood to be male-dominated. This experience helped shape the content of her music and art, but also who she is. Simply Vika aims to be a voice to those who put down every day and inspire them to chase their goals regardless of what others think or say.

With the experience of writing lyrics, Vika fell in love with rhyme schemes after initially learning hip-hop culture. She wrote Stigma when she moved to LA and decided to pursue a career in music, “people didn’t believe I could be a musician full-time…” With two Youtube channels and a consistent stream of new releases, Vika’s work ethic and creativity have begun to generate a following for her art. This track showcases Vika’s lyrical abilities through bars that break the stigma, and faithful reassurances “you can do it if you dedicate yourself.”

I’m Trying has a simple and smooth beat with mystical guitar chords, and features three thoughtful verses from Vika. The song has a slight folk-sound and compliments Vika’s storytelling abilities. Her lyrics capture the feeling of aimlessness when you don’t know how to get to where you want to be, “I don’t know what I’m writing for I just share my thoughts… I just wanted you to know me” . She balances themes of acceptance and perseverance through self-belief.

Simply Vika wants to be the start of her own change and inspire positive growth in those around her. Make sure to subscribe to Simply Vika’s Youtube channel below to stay up-to-date on her monthly music releases and videos!
