Fall semester is winding down and it’s more important than ever to allow time for yourself to take breaks from studying and being crammed inside. Why not do some exploring? We created the perfect guide to parks near campus so you can take in the autumn colors and get some fresh air! As a bonus, we’ve added a few must-try stops along the way.

Big Bay Park

Located in Whitefish Bay, Big Bay Park offers a spacious area perfect for studying, picnics and other socially distanced activities. Besides having a gorgeous overlook of Lake Michigan, visiting Big Bay Park is a great excuse to explore the surrounding Shorewood neighborhood. Travel to Big Bay Park by taking Oakland Avenue and take a pit stop at North Shore Boulangerie, an authentic French café in the heart of Shorewood!

Atwater Park

Atwater Park is located just north of campus and is home to the Spillover II, a public artwork piece by Jaume Plensa. Adventure down the paved walking path or get your steps in on the staircase that leads to one Milwaukee’s quietest beaches, Atwater Beach.

Lake Park

Nature walks, tennis courts, picnic areas and golf are just a few of the features Lake Park has to offer. After enjoying one of the many amenities of Lake Park, head over to the Colectivo Coffee lakefront location and hang out on the patio under the string lights and enjoy the views of Lake Michigan.

Downer Woods

An 11.1 acre fenced-in forest right on campus is the perfect nature escape to take a break from the stress of the semester. After exploring the woods, take a walk over to Stone Creek Coffee and treat yourself to a good cup of coffee or a quick snack, like the homemade toast and jam, which never disappoints.
