Pumpkin spice and everything nice. One of our favorite things about fall is pumpkin-everything. In honor of National Pumpkin Day, we’re sharing 8 things you can do with pumpkins.

Carving

This is a classic one, but you never outgrow carving pumpkins. Get some friends together and head to a pumpkin patch in one of the surrounding towns, or even just head to the Pick n’ Save or Metro Market near campus to pick up a pumpkin!

Paint Them

If you don’t like carving pumpkins, you can paint them instead. Go on over to Pinterest and get some inspiration for painting your pumpkins!

Pumpkin Seeds

Don’t throw out the pumpkin seeds after you carve your pumpkin — roast them for the perfect fall snack. Wash and dry your seeds, spread them on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil and whatever seasoning you want, and roast them at 275° for 40–45 minutes!

Pumpkin Pie

Can’t go wrong with pumpkin pie. Pick one up at one of the local grocery stores or make your own with this recipe!

Pumpkin Pancakes

We’ve heard of banana pancakes, but what about pumpkin? In the spirit of fall, ‘pumpkin spice’ up your normal breakfast with pumpkin pancakes!

Pumpkin Spice Latte

They might be basic but PSL’s are a fall necessity. Did you know that the Grind has pumpkin spice? If you aren’t a pumpkin spice fan, they also have some other fun fall drinks, like the Candy Corn Latte!

Pumpkin Donuts

We already LOVE donuts, but pumpkin donuts are on a whole new level. Check out Metro Market or Pick n’ Save, a pumpkin farm near Milwaukee, or even make your own to enjoy some pumpkin donuts this fall. Holey Moley also has some other seasonal flavored donuts, like Baby Spice, Chai Cake, and Apple Pie Cheesecake.

Pumpkin Ice Cream

Last, but certainly not least, is Pumpkin Ice Cream. If you have never had pumpkin ice cream, you are missing out. On Halloween, the flavor of the day at Kopps is Jack-O-Lantern — a pumpkin custard with marshmallow ribbons and chocolate chunks. If you need it now, Purple Door has Pumpkin Spice Ice Cream!

Celebrate National Pumpkin Day by carving, painting, or eating pumpkin flavored things! Tag us in your photos of you and your pumpkin festivities @uwmilwaukee!
