While we’re still experiencing some uncertainty due to the pandemic, things are looking up. All over the world people have been finding ways to support each other safely, whether through video calls or socially distanced activities. At UWM, you’ve worn masks to protect each other and supported your classmates in both online and in-person courses.

Now more than ever, it’s important to celebrate and encourage kindness. Today, for Random Acts of Kindness Day, we’ve put together a list of ways you can safely make someone’s day a little brighter and remind them that we’re all in this together.

  1. Tell someone why you are thankful for them through a sweet message.
  2. Send an inspiration quote or meme to a friend, family member, colleague, etc.
  3. Donate to a charity, if you are able.
  4. Take the burden of cooking off a loved one by sending them a meal from a local restaurant.
  5. Shovel your neighbor’s sidewalk.
  6. Reach out to a friend, family member, or neighbor who might be experiencing loneliness or self-isolation.
  7. Leave an online review for your favorite local restaurant or small business, telling everyone how great they are.
  8. Mask up and get tested for COVID-19 to protect yourself and your community.
  9. Place large signs with kind messages in your windows to inspire people as they drive or walk by.
  10. And, perhaps most importantly, don’t forget to be kind to yourself. If you need some support, remember there are variety of UWM resources to help take care of your mental health. You are doing your best and we’re proud of you, Panthers.

Navigating the pandemic isn’t easy, but we’ll get through this together. Be the reason someone smiles today. A random act of kindness can go a long way.
