As one of the most diverse schools in the UW system, we would like to take a moment and celebrate Black History Month on campus! Here is a list of all the events happening during the month of February!

February 5

Black & Abroad: Black Panthers Go Global

Bolton 176, 3:30-5 p.m.

The Black Cultural Center hosts a Meet & Greet with African American students who have studied abroad. Come hear about their experience and speak with the Center for International Education about study abroad opportunities for you!

February 6

Stars, Stories, and Rhythms of Africa

UWM Manfred Olson Planetarium, 6-9:30 p.m.

This live presentation explores African culture through storytelling, dance, and music, all while you are underneath the stars!

February 7

Coming to America

Union Cinema, 6-8 p.m.

This film is about a pampered African Prince in New York, who goes undercover to find a wife. It is apart of the American Film Series by the Sociocultural Programming.

February 11

Jazz and the Civil Rights Movement

Wisconsin Room Lounge, 1-2:15 p.m.

Galen Abdur-Razzaq presents “History of Jazz” and discusses various jazz artists and their influence on the jazz scene.

February 12

The Hidden Impact of Racial Segregation on Milwaukee County

Alumni Fireside Lounge, 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Learn about segregation in the city of Milwaukee.

Navigating Academia while Black II

Come hear experiences of being the minority at a predominately white university.

A boy, A girl. A dream

Union Cinema, 6-7:30 p.m.

This film is about a L.A. club promoter and a midwestern visitor’s emotional journey of the 2016 Presidential election. This film is apart of the American Film Series hosted by the Sociocultural Programming.

From Prison to Portraits: Painting a New Future

Black Lives Black Lungs: How Big Tobacco Targets Black Communities

Learn African dances.

February 23

Black Feminist Symposium

Golda Meira Library, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The first Black Feminist Symposium promotes critical self-reflection through workshops and speakers.

February 28

Blindspotting

Union Cinema, 6-7:45 p.m.

A man must re-evaluate his friendship with his best friend while on probation. This film is apart of the American Film Series hosted by the Sociocultural Programming.
