In preparation for National Decision Day, we took to our Instagram Stories and asked people why they chose UWM. Here’s what stood out to our students when they were deciding where to go.

DIVERSITY

One of the reasons that our students love this school is because of the diversity. Students are exposed to all different cultures at UWM, the most diverse campus in the UW System. The university has a Multicultural Student Center with resources and support for the students at UWM as well as many different organizations where you can experience other cultures.

OPPORTUNITY

“So many opportunities for professional growth” — @taylorsharai

UWM provides opportunities for studying abroad, internships, volunteering, leadership programs and many more. Milwaukee itself is full of opportunities for you to kickstart your career, providing students with real-experience and a strong career network.

THE CITY

We love this city and our students do too! Milwaukee is full of life and opportunities for students. There are always events going on in the city, so you’ll never be without something to do or see. Milwaukee is a big, diverse city that has a small town feel and is easy to get around (especially with your free city bus pass when you enroll).

RESEARCH

Our status as an R1 university has drawn many of our students to UWM. As one of the top research universities in the nation, we provide over a thousand opportunities to work closely with your professors and do research in any field.

THE PROGRAMS

“The Global Studies Program! It was exactly what I was looking for to a T!” — @alex_knudtson_

“UWM had one of the best film programs in the country!” — @alinkbetweendragons

“UWM has a great nursing program and a great campus!” — @skylerphilllips

UWM offers 195 degree programs, so there’s truly something for everyone.

CAMPUS

Campus is perfectly located five minutes west of Lake Michigan and five minutes north of downtown Milwaukee. It is the perfect mix of city and nature with the Downer Woods in Sandburg’s backyard, and green spots scattered all across campus. You get the best of both worlds at UWM — a big university in a big city with a community-oriented atmosphere.

“Wanted to move to a big city– the campus still feels small enough to feel a part of” — @gabrielleejanee

HOME

“Aside from the campus being BEAUTIFUL, I wanted to go somewhere that I could make into a home. Somewhere that challenged me while also comforting me all in one.” — @cortniejudith

“It felt like home from the moment I stepped on campus” — @kelsey_z

“I loved everything about UWM. The people, the location and the fact that I know I’ll feel at home” — @yamitheanimator

No matter how close or far you are from where you came from, UWM will feel like home in no time. There’s nothing better than feeling like you belong somewhere, and believe us, you do here!

We couldn’t agree more with these reasons to love UWM! We can’t wait for all of our new Panthers to get here and experience all the great things that make UWM special.
