1.0 Recap

Yesterday, I did an in-depth study of one of the five stages of design thinking which was Empathy. I wrote about what qualities a designer should possess in order to empathise with users and also ways of observing users and gathering information that will help in innovative thinking of a solution. You can check it out here.

2.0 MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS

Today, I took a break from Design Thinking to continue with User Experience. The topic I picked up was MASLOW’S HIERARCHY OF NEEDS and how it’s important in design.

One rule that UX follows is “Pursue higher needs only after lower needs are satisfied”. When translating Maslow’s hierarchy to design, functionality is usually the first considered(i.e basic need). You want whatever product you are creating to work with its basic functionalities before thinking about usability and User Experience.

I didn’t do much reading today, so I’ll continue with Empathy in UX tomorrow.

3.0 Resources

The best way to learn is by asking questions and letting people know how you understand the topic. Feel free to leave a comment, we will definitely learn from it🙂.
