Brief - This article is all about our classroom project for which we had to choose a brand, we had to analyze their current user interface and user experience and see how we can change and improve the existing interface.

Disclaimer - Our case study is purely for educational purposes only, it does not have any commercial connection with the company(Jio). This is just a conceptual project of our team (Parshwa Panchwatkar and Grishma Pipada) the whole case study is done under the guidance of our mentor Abhrojit Boral and Rajeev Kumar. All images have been taken from the google.com(stock images websites / existing app / colleges and friends). About the JioMeet

www.jiomeet.com

Reliance Jio has entered into the video conferencing bandwagon with the launch of Jio Meet. The app is available to download on Google Play Store, iOS, macOS and Windows and can be used on desktop as well.
Much like other video calling apps like Zoom and Google Meet, JioMeet also offers an unlimited number of free calls in high definition to its users and supports 100 participants on a call.

MISSION
JioMeet’s Mission is to give stiff competition to the Zoom app and Google meet with a Indian platform. Which provides almost the same facilities but at a very cheaper rate.

VISION
Jio’s vision is to transform India with the power of digital revolution — to connect everyone and everything, everywhere — always at the highest quality and the most affordable price.

UNDERSTANDING DIFFERENT STAKEHOLDERS and TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Reliance Jio Company
  • Organisations-Schools, Offices, Industries.
  • Individuals-Family, Friends, Students, Teachers, employees.
As this is a video conferencing platform our brand does not have a specific target audience our brand caters to every type of audience which include children’s for their educational purpose, adults for their commercial purpose, and individuals for their one-to-one or group conversations.

ANALYZING THE CUSTOMERS VS BRAND
The brand is aiming to cater all the needs of the customer at a low expense rate. The customer demands for a smooth and interactive interface with advanced features that are capable and are as powerful as the competitors.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN POINTS THAT WE SHOULD CONSIDER ?
Our main motto was to create a social outreach program involving the customers which would promote brand loyalty as well as which will help us to increase the customer base. While doing our basic research we realized that the only way for customers to reach the brand was through mouth publicity, digital platform and store. So we are trying to spread awareness by this outreach program.

CUSTOMER ANALYSIS
To understand and analyse the current situation of our app we conducted a survey of 10 questions which includes the overall app. The survey was circulated among family, colleges, friends and on different social media platforms. On the basis of the survey we came to know that-

Analysis of the survey

  • The majority of the customers were not aware of the app.
  • People were more comfortable using zoom and google meet over jiomeet.
  • The main reason for which the people were not using jiomeet was its interface and connection issue.
  • The usage of jiomeet is more likely to be used in school and colleges, for personal purpose but not in the commercial sector.
  • Audience are not satisfied by the features provided in the app saying that the lack in many enhanced features which other applications provide.
  • The customer would like to use the desktop version over the application.

COMPETITORS ANALYSIS

We compared JioMeet with 5 different video calling platforms -

  • Zoom
  • Google Meet
  • Cisco Webex Meeting
  • Go To Meeting
  • Microsoft Team

The following table shows the comparison between this on their features-

SWOT ANALYSIS

Strength

  • The App offers an unlimited number of free HD (High-Definition) calls (720 pixels to be precise).
  • The free call can last long for 24 hours uninterrupted.
  • The meeting is password protected.
  • Have an active speaker layout.
  • Have a Waiting Room.
  • Safe Driving mode to video call while driving(mobile app).
  • Multi-device support, and the ability to switch to another device with ease.
  • The multi-device login support-up to 5 devices at a time-which can be switched during ongoing calls.

Weakness

  • High Rate of data consumption.
  • JioMeet doesn’t allow anyone to set up a password for its meeting.
  • There is no way to send a private message to the host.
  • There is no co-host.
  • No virtual background.
  • No option to connect from phone.

Opportunities

The opportunity to gain the attention of customers we think that the the existing app lacks in following features-

  • No record option for the desktop version, you can record only by the JioMeet pro website version.
  • No whiteboard option on share screen.
  • No breakout rooms.
  • There are no Layout change options.

Threats

  • Market domination by the competitors.
  • Brand stability.
  • Interest of shareholders.

EXISTING INTERFACE
Now that we have looked on the jiomeet and their competitors, now it’s time for us to move on the next stage where we will examine the existing interface of the application

We approached the desktop application as a new customer looking to have a video call, so that we understand the navigation and whether it is easy to understand the interface.

THINGS WE PRAISED OFF

  • Keeping the users in mind the application is well designed and navigating through the website was easy and user friendly.
  • One feature that we found was very interesting was the text formatting. You can format your text while you are chatting in an ongoing video call.
  • Formatting options like bullet points, change font, point size of the font, underline, bold ,italics.
  • Everything was easy to locate on the application because it has a very simple, clean and spacious layout.
  • A very minimal use of colour is used in the website.

THINGS THAT ANNOYED US

  • The most disappointing thing in JioMeet is that you can’t join the meeting or host meeting online for that you have to download the desktop application or use the mobile application.(to host the meeting online you have to use the JioMeet pro website)
  • To give you a check for your audio frequency there is a very unusual dark yellow colour horizontal bar which changes according to your voice frequency.
  • There is a very awkward box for the share screen, the user has to scroll down to select the other options, the dimension of the box should be changed.
  • There is no quick settings for audio and video settings like zoom does. The user has to click on the audio settings or the video settings to change things.
  • There is a very huge and noticeable difference in the chat section of the windows and Mac version. As you can see in the windows version has a blue box for self messages where on Mac its grey with the whole name and the initial of the participant. The icon for display is also different , circular in Mac and squarish in Windows. There is a very noticeable spacing problem on the Windows version . The size of bullet points varies in both versions , it’s very huge on the Mac. You can also notice that at the bottom the send button gets cut.
  • The profile panel has a very different drop down, it’s not below the column

SO WHAT WE ANALYSED ?
After doing the customer analysis and the user interface analysis we came to a conclusion that jiomeet needs a lot of improvements, in both the factors of features and the interface structure.

people are not aware about the application and they are not willing to switch over. So here is a list of features that we can include in the application-

  • Allotting a Co-Host.
  • Facility of breakout rooms.
  • Private messages to host on video calls.
  • More share screen options.
  • More layout and view option while you are on call.
  • Record session.
  • Having a remote control option where you can access other participants’ windows.
  • Annotate feature.

After this analysis we now head on to the next phase of our study. We have decided to redesign the existing desktop application of JioMeet-
