Make me your mentor
I’m serious. Make me your mentor, now!
Like everyday, I was reaching towards my ‘inbox zero’ goal and I found this newsletter from 99u.com. It had this story titled ‘This is why you don’t have a mentor’. I could easily relate to that title.
So I was going through the article and suddenly it hit me, what if I don’t seek out for mentors? What if I offer mentorship from my side? Sure I’m relatively new in this business but there are bunch of people who are just starting out.
I remember my early days when I clearly did not have sense of... almost anything. I was trying a gazillion things and applying at different firms for job without actually knowing what they want and what I can offer. It would’ve been nice if I had someone telling me, correcting me, encouraging me.
Before we start, let me tell you about myself. I am Abhijeet but I go by the alias Sokratus. I live in a city called Pune, India. Currently I am a UI and UX designer. I also work as an illustrator and brand identity designer. I have been doing this for almost 4 years now. I blog occasionally. I love writing small tutorials about things I learn everyday (mostly about Sketchapp). My interests lie in almost everything related to design. I try to code HTML/CSS now and then. Right now I’m trying to learn Swift language with the help of Meng To’s Design+Code.
So here it goes. I’m not sure if this will be read by anyone or whoever reads this will have even the little bit of interest in me. But if you are someone who just started using UI/UX in your name but still don’t know how to take it to next level (I’m still trying that but I’m aware of my next level) or you just want some advice on tools you should use or you’re just transition your career from something else into design and you want someone to just guide you in your initial days… I’m your guy.
