Nowadays whenever we install any new app on our mobile phones, we are often greeted with the login screen. The login screen in most of the application is the first screen of interaction for the user, so the designer needs to put a detailed thought after designing one. Some points need to be considered while designing the login screen.

Picture Attribute: Designed by me ;)

Simplicity:

  • Keep the login screen as simple as possible, do not provide the user with too many options on the login screen itself.
  • Keeping the screen visually appealing to the user while also maintaining the readability of the text.

Convenience:

  • The best way to describe this point is simply by providing the user with the ease of login option by using their Google or Facebook account, most of the user does have that nowadays. This would allow the user to easily check-in into the app and start using it.
  • Never forget to provide the “Forgot the password” option on the login screen.
  • Let end-user see the password if they want to.

Emphasis:

Always emphasize the element which you want the user to interact with ultimately and use it, like “Login Button” on the screen usually is highlighted in bright color with shadows.

Reachability:

All the elements the user is going to interact with on the login screen must be easily reachable when using one hand or both the hands. Try to keep all the elements in the natural reachability zone for easy reachability.

Although the login screen has a simple functionality but it needs to be designed with the same level of careful consideration like for the home screen for the app. Its always a good practice I believe to follow the standard guidelines of material design or ios design while designing for the respective platform.
