In the run up to the 10th anniversary edition of UX London, we’re taking a look back through the archives with our creator and curator in chief, Mr Andy Budd.

UX London 2016

In 2016, Clara Gaggero Westaway charmed the UX London audience with her studio’s amazing portfolio of design, including their now legendary lego resource planner. Erika Hall also knocked it out of the park, with possibly one of the best talks on design research I think I’ve ever seen. Many old friends were back that year, including Abby Covert, Leah Buley, Peter Merholz, Eva-Lotta Lamb and Cennydd Bowles.

However, it was the beautiful and emotional talk from Rebecca Ussai and Glen Keane that stole the show. Glen is a legendary Disney Animator and has worked on some of their most iconic movies. Despite spending much of his life using pen and paper, he’d recently been experimenting with VR, and what experiments they were! In this session he joined forces with Interaction Designer Rebecca, and together they deconstructed the Disney rules of animation and how they pertained to the interaction design industry. It’s difficult to describe the talk unless you were there, but it’s the only session I’ve seen get a standing ovation at UX London, and it left me tearing up and almost unable to speak at the end.
