Information Overload, Why it Matters and How to Combat It

Information overload is nothing new, but the Internet has made things worse. Limitless information at your fingertips and algorithms designed to give you more of what you want.

The more we consume, the more overloaded we become, and the more unable to make decisions we are.

The fancy word for this in UX and psychology is cognitive load.

As designers, we’re semi-responsible for considering the cognitive load of the content, designs and flows we build. By keeping things simple and relevant, we can cut down distractions for users so that they can take action from our products and have satisfaction.

10 Tips & Exercises to Develop Your Creativity

Creativity is a skill and not a gift — meaning that it’s not something limited to just artists and inventors, and you can get there too!

There are a couple of things on this list that I don’t already find myself doing such as carving out time for brainstorming or doing a daily creative practices.

Being a full-time working professional, it’s been hard transitioning into a full-remote job and finding time to cook meals, let alone dedicating time to practice drawing. But I’ve been taking small steps to try to get 15 minutes in a day sketching. Like any other skill, the first step to developing it is to start doing it.

Design Documentation: Why You Need It

We’re 3 weeks from product launch on a cross-functioning team and I discovered something shock — there are many discrepancies between the design documentation and the product… Yikes!

Design documentation is a collection of documents and resources that details information about users, product features, deadlines, and all other essential details for a fully-function product. The information must be up-to-date and easy to access for all team members so that there isn’t confusion. While for some teams it can be an afterthought, it directly impacts the outcome. Therefore, you should never overlook the documentation process.
