Purpose of Tooltip Text
Tooltip text are provided on UI to serve the following purposes:
- Inform the user/audience of a built-in Bullish feature
- Inform the user/audience of an industry term
- Inform the user/audience on what UI data/metrics are being displayed.
- For instance, in the case of a data-rich dashboard, inform the user what the data points are, what metrics are being displayed, and so on.
In short, the general purpose of a tooltip text is to fill in the knowledge gaps of users/audience during a user journey by providing necessary information.
Anatomy of Tooltip Text
Tooltips should be:
- Concise
- Not exhaustive
- Can contain fragmented text as opposed to a fully constructed text in case of UI space constraints - Clear
- Use plain language
- Avoid complicated sentence constructions ● - Informative
- Provide useful info
- Fill in knowledge gaps as necessary
- Call out unique features of the Bullish platform

Tooltip Text Length
For Bullish UI tooltips, standardize the text length to:
● Min 1 sentence and max 2 sentences
○ In some cases, more than 2 sentences may be necessary. Use discretion and make sure the purpose of the tooltip is being fulfilled ● Reference link to Help Center (optional)
Tooltip Formula
Tooltip text = (<= two sentences)+("reference link text"|optional)
Tooltip text = Less than or equal to 2 sentences + reference link to Help Center if necessary.
● 1 sentence = ~ 15–25 words
A tooltip text should be informative/descriptive in nature, not instructive. If step-by-step instructions are needed, document the instructions in the Help Center and link the tooltip text to the specific section.
