Satori #02: One month in the process

A month has already disappeared. Slowly I’m starting to get used to the new freedom. Small and large customer inquiries pop up again and again — what a nice feeling. This gives me a first impression of digital nomadic life and can convince myself that my customers come to terms better with the current situation than I would ever have expected. Fortunately, the inquiries were limited so that we can continue to focus on our internal projects.

The first month in Taiwan was special, because there was more change here than expected — from working to nutrition.

One morning, while I marched towards Kaohsiung City Central Park, the joy overcame me — Should work feel like this, so completely independent of location, wandering around the world and still maximum productive? In the next few weeks left, I would like to expand this a little further to see where this way of working takes me or how much productivity remains at the end of the day. 😉

Sometimes, it’s more fun alone

I particularly noticed the days how much I enjoyed going on an adventure trip alone. Just isolate myself from the group for a few hours or even days to let myself drift through the country without a fixed goal. Never before have I met so many people and great places — yes, this life could truly bring me joy. Getting out of the comfort zone is what means most to me. Because nothing brings more tension and energy than knowing that you are currently traveling to unknown waters.

Otherwise, it’s nicer together 🤗

What could be more fun than discovering new places together and gaining new experiences at the same time? Right, a win-win situation for the whole group. I have enjoyed the time together with my two travel companions so far and am very happy to have taken the step into the adventure with them. The only drop of defense is that my girlfriend can’t be by my side this time, because at the end of the day she is still my favorite adventurer — my Robin.

The dear gluten

Naive as I am, I always like to be told that it is easy in Asia: “The benefits for all rice anyway” — That’s true, but the soy sauce also comes from Asia (Japan) and is very celebrated there, as is the common wheat. I can hardly think of any country spontaneously, which brings more pastries to the menu. As a result, of course, I also managed to get gluten poisoning in the first two weeks, which paralyzed me every time for three to four days. Either I was juiceless or had migraines. Good start. But after I had overcome this and only ate at home, it slowly got better. I am pleased that my companions are trying to pay attention to their gluten consumption and to me, so that the risk of contamination is reduced to a minimum — this is by no means self-evident. And I myself try to make sure not to perceive them as a potential danger when they bite a bun with pleasure — it’s not that easy.

“The best ideas are born out of necessity.”

This is also what happened here. Because for years now and again I have been on the verge of sitting down on my gluten app. And thanks to the new experiences with my companions and the city, I am now more motivated than ever!

Work 2.0 🚊

One of the biggest accustomations for me is the opportunity to be accessible and work on the go. Unfortunately, this is a little more difficult in Germany, as the LTE tariff required for this alone costs 80 to 100 euros and you must then also be lucky enough to really have reception at the respective location. It’s much easier here in Taiwan, because no matter where you are, you have very good reception almost everywhere and that for just 25 euros a month!

What do your own projects do?

Projects? They’re running! Among other things, we have started VeganFacts.de in recent weeks and have also started working on three other projects. Hopefully, they should all be launched in one sense or another at the beginning of April. Through a completely free head and the focus on oneself, completely new ideas come about, which must now be explored and validated. So it’s time to stay on the ball!

Learnings

Freedom and focus make a lot of difference, especially for people like us, people who like to work a lot. I very much hope that we get all our ideas and portfolio projects on the road in order to share them with you and develop them further together.

What about your customers?

Of course, we did not neglect them. While Staffbase has given us the freedom to unfold, others have lowered the workload a little. We are very grateful for the resulting opportunities and look forward to working for such great companies.

“At first, understandably, there was a more than healthy degree of scepticism on board. However, this flew away quite quickly.”

Trust

Actions say more than words. At first, understandably, there was still a more than healthy degree of scepticism on board. However, this flew away quite quickly, as we delivered as promised. After the first two weeks, customers literally enjoyed submitting the briefings the day before so that they can then click through the individual iterations and suggestions the next morning. Now the challenge is rather to get rid of them from April.

In short

The first month passed in no time and we were even able to put one of our projects live (veganfacts.de). So the focus seems to have been worth it all the way to here. Nevertheless, I am already looking forward to coming back home, to my girlfriend.

If I could wish for something for the last month, it would be that we do not lose our vigor and constantly continue to work on our projects — but with the latter I worry little with my friend and business partner — because if someone can work focused even under the worst conditions, then it is him!
