The UK’s National Health Service (NHS) updated its digital platforms in 2016. The NHS Digital websites had over 400 services but needed to be more consistent to use. Finding information was difficult because of poor navigation, too much text, links, and technical content.

The new website, run by the Government Digital Service, reduced users’ time searching for information. The NHS built a website that was easier to use, with more precise written content, a more straightforward interface, and a reduced number of PDFs from 12,000 to a few hundred. They also removed banner ads. The result: daily users went from 15,000 to 26,000.
