Stockholm is the second most prolific tech hub in the world, beaten only by famous Silicon Valley.

Stockholm has an extraordinary tech and innovation ecosystem where large organisations and highly motivated startups are building the future.

The city’s tech community is tight-knit and there are people who have dedicated their time to help others succeed. We’ve chosen 30 people who have worked hard throughout the year on building great events around a passionate community and who deserve to be praised. Let us know in the comments who we are missing and we will continue to update this list as a thank you to the unsung heroes. We have grouped them into Development, Design, Entrepreneurship and the people are listed below in no particular order.

Jonny Strömberg

Jonny Strömberg is a swedish designer and engineer. Jonny has the passion for bringing people together in his blood — he is a co-founder of Confetti and Nordic.js events, and he is also co-organising Sthlm.js, Hackaway and Designers i Stockholm meetups. When he doesn’t organise events, he writes open source JavaScript like List.js and speaks at various events.

IxDA Stockholm, a hub for all experience, interaction, and service design fans, was founded by Stefano Oliva and his 2 friends with the intention of exploring, disrupting and enriching the Stockholm digital environment. Stefano is currently working as a lead user experience designer at Designit, where he is revolving around innovation and design thinking. Stefano has been a part of the IxDA from the very beginning — his current organisers deserve recognition as well — Akshay Gite, who is working as a UX/UI designer of IoT products at Husqvarna, Rafael Coimbra, designer at Lifesum, and also Yanina Godoy, who is spending her days as a UX designer at Comprend.

Developers

Peter Svensson, Sevil Güler — Stockholm Google Developer Group

Peter Svensson, Sevil Güler

This meetup focus is mostly on Google Technologies, with deep forays into programming language design, cloud services, DevOps and web technologies. The group is organised by Peter Svensson, a JS developer since 2005 and who currently is the CTO at Friendbase. Co-organiser, Sevil Güler works at Knowit Mobile and specialises in computer and network security, with a special focus on mobile.

Thomas Backlund — Decentralised Self

Thomas Backlund

The future of the web is becoming more decentralised, Smart Contracts and Ethereum. That’s why Thomas Backlund gets together with a group of people who believe in the same future at the Decentralised Self meetup. Thomas also runs his own business — Blockie, where he aims to make the Internet of Things accessible to everyone.

Scala is sometimes acclaimed as one of the most exciting languages to be created in the 21st century. Scala Stockholm’s enthusiasts would definitely agree. The meetup is created for anyone in the Stockholm area who are interested in the power and possibilities of Scala and is led by Enno Runne, Scala developer at Baymarkets, Johan Andrén, software engineer at Lightbend, and Örjan Lundberg, software architect at Combient.

Danielle Jabin — PyLadies Stockholm

Danielle Jabin

PyLadies an international mentorship group, with a focus on helping women become active participants and leaders in the Python open-source community. Danielle Jabin is organising PyLadies in Stockholm, together with 4 other Pythonistas who help her promote, educate and advance a diverse women Python community. Besides event organising, she is spending her days coaching Agile at the Spotify team.

Henrik Lindberg — DevOps Stockholm

Henrik Lindberg

DevOps Stockholm is a group of engineers (both dev and ops, of all levels, front to back, top to bottom) coming together to share their knowledge and experience. Henrik Lindberg, the main organiser of this meetup, has broad software development experience working in both large organisations and his own startups. He is currently a consulting engineer at Puppet.

Tommy Tynjä — Continuous Delivery Stockholm

Tommy Tynjä

There is no bigger fan of Continuous Delivery and DevOps than Tommy Tynjä. Tommy is spending days as a Continuous Delivery evangelist at Diabol, and from time to time he continues in the evenings as an organiser of the Continuous Delivery Stockholm meetup group. He also speaks regularly at international software conferences and used to teach software engineering students test-driven development, Continuous Delivery and Docker.

Thomas Anagrius — GOTO Tech Meetup

Thomas Anagrius

Thomas has a great passion for software development and UI/UX as well. Currently, he is leading the Swedish Trifork in the role of CEO. The GOTO Tech Meetup is designed for all developers who want to stay up to date with the latest tools, technologies, processes and practices in the software industry, and once a year, they also organise the GOTO Conference for developers, too.

Stockholm’s Agile People is a collaborative project of many talented people who believe in creating better organisations through an Agile methodology. Currently, Johan Westerlund and Pontus Holmgren hold the group together, both with outstanding Agile backgrounds. Johan has 10 years of experience as a manager in software development and 7 years of Lean and Agile coaching. Pontus has worked with leadership and company transformations for over 20 years.

Similar to Agile People, Go Agile is a gathering of people who want to spread a gospel about this methodology. The meetup is currently organised by Nataliya Remez, an engineering manager and Agile & Lean support at Centra. She is also a practitioner of other things are fans of — Solutions Architecture, DevOps, Continuous Delivery or Continuous Integration.

STHLM TECH Meetup is the largest monthly startup event in Europe. Each month for over 4 years, every geek, hacker, entrepreneur, investor, and designer around Stockholm comes together under one roof. The man behind this gathering is Tyler Crowley, Founder and CEO of Skweal and an organiser of several product conferences and festivals such as STHLM TECH FEST or Launch Festival.

Organised by Fredrik Holm, a senior full stack developer and solution architect at Infolyzer, and Oskar Duveborn, 10 year old .NET developer with a seven year history as a devops expert and IT-manager, who currently spends his days at Betsson.
