Focus on Yourself.

Designed an app for users who want to reduce their screen time & focus on improving their productivity.

Why this app ❔ 😉

All of us have tried several tricks to reduce our Screen Time like :

  • Switching off our devices.
  • Uninstalling social media apps.
  • Keeping our phone in other rooms.

But none of those ninja techniques work!!… Right ? .

So this was a great opportunity for me to explore this problem statement in detail & solve it finally (at least try to do so 😅) .

📄 User Stories

Ones we considered + derived features from them.

Our Solution

— — — — — — — —

➕ Just set the timer

➕ Tap onto music icon.

Background Music gets played for the entire duration of ⏱

Our Solution

— — — — — — — —

➕ Just make a promise

➕ Set the timer

Start your work 👍🏼

As human beings it’s natural for us to make promises. Isn’t it ? 😉

Our Solution

— — — — — — — —

➕ Section to show user their past achievement/failures

This helps them stay on track 🙌🏼& also boosts their confidence level.

Our Solution

— — — — — — — —

➕ Just set the timer

➕ Go finish your chapters .

When the timer is done, it will notify you & a new bird 🦜will be added to your flock.

Challenge 💯

To reduce user’s screen time & enhance their productivity.

How this idea came up ❔

  • We at NIT Jalandhar have our own ‘Design Club Eleven’.
  • Solo Date is part of our parent project ‘METAL’ that’s regarding Mental Health.
  • Our team worked on this concept for over a month(post March COVID 19 lockdown was imposed).

How we did it ❔

User Interviews

  • This was done individually by all the members as the plan was to discuss all of our data & observations with team in evening after our classes.
  • We recorded audio(with interviewees permission) & also documented our findings in excel sheets (without mentioning their names).

Group Discussions

  • We used to assemble almost daily post our classes & discussions were carried out with the team.
  • Everyone noted down each others viewpoints onto paper or even audio files.
  • Lots of patterns came out of these discussions.
Group Discussions where everyone shared their ideas & findings with the team members

Problem Statement Exploration

Design team at work
With no categories in our mind we were looking for them in these cutouts

Affinity Mapping Session

  • Excel sheet cutouts came real handy as this was something new & exciting.
  • We were using contrasting cutouts & then we tried to sum up those cutouts with amazing 1 liners.
  • Some of the amazing 1 liners were like : “ Bologe toh sunenge ,sunenge toh samjhenge “ , “ Khud ko janke dekho “ & many more.

Exploring My Idea 🙌

Post Ideation Step , all of us worked on our own separate ideas & I chose Solo Date concept & crafted an end to end product with the concept.

Onboarding Screens

Familiarizing user with the our platform :

Set the timer ➡️ Egg laid

Timer proceeds ➡️ Bird grows

You Quit ➡️ Egg breaks

You succeed ➡️ bird added

Login Screens

How it works ?

Make a Promise ’ Screen

People generally don’t do as they say 🤷‍♂️

when we fail to keep our word, we lose our reputation 👎

Same concept has been used & that’s what motivates you to try harder next time 💯

Timeline Screen

As human beings we tend to keep track of things we do😏

when we fail to compare our past with our present , we feel lost.

Each session gets recorded for you to see & improve upon it in future 💯

My Stats ’ Screen

Relevant Data availability is a must to retrospect your past performances

  • Tag-wise data is shown in form of concentric circles that are color coded.
  • Graph📉 is kept hidden within a drop down button that reduces cognitive overload.
  • Big bold digits are used to show hours so that user may see them first.

⚠️What can possibly go wrong ?

Worst Case Scenario — 1️⃣

User may try to minimize the app after setting the timer 🕘

Why would would anyone do that ?

It is our natural tendency to disobey. So it is naive to think that people are gonna stick to the rules 👆

— — — — — — — — — — —

How can we stop that from happening ?

By not permitting our user from using any other app while the timer is ticking 🕘

Is it even technologically possible ?

Yes it is, using Kiosk mode on Android devices developers may incorporate this functionality in the app.

Worst Case Scenario — 2️⃣

User may want to use other apps due to emergency🙇

Some Approximations are :

  • If user has blocked any number then app’s function will not be affected by any kind of communication (call , message , etc.) from that number.
  • Only non-spam inbox e-mails will have the ability to affect app’s functionality.
  • Camera usage by 3rd party app will not affect app’s functionality.

Worst Case Scenario — 3️⃣

User accidentally clicks on Quit 😭

A 10 sec timer is deployed to :

➕ Make sure you revert back ASAP 👆

➕ Timer is well crafted for you to go through all the options.

➕ Timer is set to Don’t Quit by default(which is a sigh of relief for baby bird👏).

Worst Case Scenario — 4️⃣

User wants to see how time elapsed / wants small break 🙋‍♂️

How it helps ?

— — — — — — — — — —

➕ See time elapsed with screen lock only.

➕ Pause/ Play timer to take short refreshing breaks.

➕ See progress of your bird’s growth.

Worst Case Scenario — 5️⃣

User is not happy 😟 with the bird they got

How it helps ?

— — — — — — — — — —

➕ User gets to pick their bird

➕ User is in control of reward

➕ User has no doubts about which bird s/he would be getting once 🕘 ends.

Worst Case Scenario — 6️⃣

User wants to do multitasking 🦸🏼‍♂️

How it helps ?

— — — — — — — — — —

➕ User can do multitasking

➕ Record their statement

➕ This helps them in getting more done in less time & productivity soars 📈

Note : This is a dummy project made for non-commercial purpose to showcase in my UX design portfolio.
