Tokopedia UXiD Conference 2018, South Jakarta — this conference was held after the first event in 2014. This year took place in Tokopedia Tower for two days on 4–5 October 2018. The event was attended by participants who has similar interests in the UX (User Experience) field from professionals, Startup Enthusiast and students totaling around 300 people. Also attended by experts in their respective fields from various countries.

UXiD (UX Indonesia) is an open community for practitioners in the UX field. This community was formed in 2013 and actively engages in meetup activities and hands-on workshops in several cities in Indonesia, including Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, and Bali.

The event theme is “Growing in UX”. The event started with the opening of Cipta Pratama as the organizer of UXiD Conference 2018 event which explained the mechanism of activities. Then followed by the topic presented by Linda Sessa (PT. XL Axiata Tbk) about “Design From Within: Lessons learned on the road to creating an in-house digital shop”.

On the first day, there was a Case Study and Panel Discussion, the topics are Design System and UX in Fintech and Agriculture. Speakers in the Case Study session including: Michael Liem (Tokopedia), Monika Halim (GO-JEK), Chooake Wongwattanasilpa (DBS), Febriadi Pratama (Gringgo), Abraham Auzan (TeleCTG & Sehati), Kim Jinsun (LINE) and Hannah Rubio ( Grameen Foundation). Then, the Panel Discussion session was filled by Peterjan Van Nieuwenhuzen (Jenius), Fadilla Touirizqua Zain (Amartha), Kaspar Situmorang (BRI), Farid Inawan (JALA), Walesa Danto (LimaKilo) and Jim Oklahoma (iGrow).

One interesting discussion presented by Michael Liem, Head of Product Design at Tokopedia “Street Smart Design Leader” is to discuss his experience of being a Product Design Leader and how to build a successful design team. He said, being a Product Design Leader would always be open to anyone and the success of a team can be seen on how the leader gives the team a chance to build their team by their own way.

On the second day, it was different from the first day, there are Communal Activity and Workshop. Communal Activity sessions are sessions led by the UXiD team itself. Then, in the workshop session were speakers including: Stevanus Christopel (Tokopedia), Naning Utoyo (SP Group), Galih Pambudi (GO-JEK), Melody Budiono (Blibli.com), Borrys Hasian (Singtel), Asif Baki (Google ), Pedro Custodio (PT XL Axiata Tbk), Yoel Sumitro (Bukalapak), Abraham Auzan (TeleCTG & Sehati) and Anton Chandra (GO-JEK).

One of the speakers in this first Workshop session was Borrys Hasian, Director of Design, International at Singtel is “Design Sprint: Evolving Your Ideas to be More Desirable, Viable, and Feasible in 2–3 Days”. In this session, he talked about his experiences while working in the product design world. There are many things that have been passed while in this field. One of the message that delivered by him is “The power of NO!”, don’t ever be afraid to refuse to anyone even if it a supervisor if the decision will not work well in the future.

The last session and also for the closing of the 2018 UXiD Conference event was filled by Asif Baki, Head of Research and Insights, Next Billion User Initiative at Google who delivered the topic “Turning the Ship: Designing a Movement to Take Google Global”. In this session, it discusses the development of Google products in terms of User Experience. He was told that there were various problems from using the products and what role has UX design and research played in turning the Google ship towards the “next billion”.

Cipta Pratama, the UXiD Conference 2018 organizer hopes that the event can take place again next year with a higher level of enthusiasm and the number of speakers can be more so that there will be more diverse sessions later.
