It’s different.

It’s difficult.

It takes time.

It’s like you are trying to attract The Elephant, but in the end all you got just A Deer, So you become A Deer Hunter rather than An Ivory Hunter. All you have is just a flesh not even a single tusk.

But that flesh make you survive to continue chasing The Elephant.

But once you get the ivory, it will be worth all your life. You can buy as many fresh meat as you want without even hunting a deer, at least for a year.

And you can prepare for another hunt, persuading another ivory hunter and adding team member to join your expedition would be easy, because of your portfolio of conquering great big giant elephant. They’ll believe in you.

Get Your Hands Dirty

Hunting is not about waiting, hunting is about attracting. You need to throw the bait first.

Bait them. Show your works.

Let them find you, effortlessly.

For several month working in digital agency startup, all I and my coworkers do is showing off. Showing off our work-in-progress to people, make an update on social media about what we do, write publications, create many contents and illustrations, engage in community, even opening a design class.

Those are the bait we already set.

It’s not About Conquering or Killing

If you are startup, you are not the deer. And if you are enterprise, you are not The Elephant.

You are the jungle.

That full of challenges and opportunities.

The deer is the minor problem you need to identify in order to make your business working as you intended.

And The Elephant is the most painful problem you need to solve, it’s a spine inside your company that need to be found, unplugged, and fixed.

Marketing in business-to-business (B2B) startup is about providing solution to every minor or major difficulties our potential clients need to solve.

Clients more likely to have different persona, coming from different background, revenues, and problems.

Providing one-single solution is not the best way to tackle all those obstacles. Working in B2B startup means that every problem need a specific solution, and every question need to be answered and treated differently.
