How to experience Five Senses — in Digital Commerce

Our five senses allow us to experience the world. These senses will send the majority of information through the nerve system to our brain to recognize. Our experience, belief system, and culture are defined by what senses receiving.

Five senses are Sight, Sound, Touch, Smell, and Taste. Our Senses are one of the fundamental reasons to connect customers and product life.

Jinsop Lee, an industrial designer, calls this as Five Sense theory. He explained about the sense in Ted Talk a long back.

Transferring to digital commerce, it’s too challenging to implement Five Sense. Mostly we can feel Sight, Touch, and Sound in the digital world.

How to meet the Smell and Taste?

As I discussed at the opening of this Article, how belief system and sense interconnected. From this, we can understand our belief system grounded in emotions and life experiences.

Now we can fulfill all the senses in Digital commerce by persuading the user’s emotions.

How to perform the user belief system in Digital Commerce?

We have habits to share our experience with friends when we ate delicious food; bought a brand-new phone; experienced the adventure. At the moment we feel the taste of the food, feel the product, and live at the place based on how our friends expressed their emotions and experience.

In this case, people expressing their emotions through the Senses: Sound and photographs to make use to imagine and experience the moment. By fusing the Sound and Sight we can achieve the smell and taste.

The emotion of touch

The video represented the watch, Visual and sound make us sense the touch of the watch. This incorporates our belief system, now we can sense the touch of the product without buying.

Smoke makes you feel the smell

Animated GIF images draw the user’s attention immediately. Look at the animated picture, the vapor impact on the picture says the food is hot, and our nose is expecting to smell it. If we combine audio with this picture, we will experience the flavor and taste of the food.

Five senses with user experience have limitations too.

All five senses may vary from one user to another user and all the senses may not be applicable for the entire user.

By achieving the belief system of the user’s we can meet the five senses in digital commerce.
