People wardrobes are filled with stuff they don’t need. Off-Season sales, surplus production are symptoms of this disease. The thoughtlessness that goes into mass producing different things that we see today ultimately is the cause of this problem.

Can customization be the Ultimate Brand?

There are people like Jodie Fox, Co-founder Shoes of Prey have been addressing issues with groundbreaking work in this problem space. The ultimate fusion of tangible & intangible medium.

But the reach is limited to just a few in the luxury segment. The opportunity space is way bigger than we realize.

Another amazing show put up by Arvind Internet: “Creyate” is a new retail concept for bespoke men’s casual wear. See Kulin Lalbhai from Arvind Internet Ltd. talking about it here:

Customers design their clothes online either in-store or at home, choosing their fabric, styling and detailing combinations, to create their own look. The 3d Visualization engine is at the heart of the brand experience. The user experience of such platform is also the key. Arvind of course despite doing amazing work needs to up its game in digital platform experience.

The best part about Creyate is the price range that it offers: it not only addresses the luxury market but also loops in the trend pickers from the mall going audience in India. One can definitely find more value as a customer into building with Creyate then picking up ready-made of the shelf products. The starting price of ₹ 2500 (approx $50) increases their reach to tech-savvy millennials.

When designing for retail experience, digital new media has a strong role to play. The sizzling work from the creative agency, Fitch is a pure inspiration:

Future of retail offers exciting opportunities in the space of customization & co-creation.
