I
am now a strange pilgrim to
you.

Along the unraveled
threads of your memory,
I journey, seeking
sacred relics of
Us,
that just might
trigger a spark across
your illness-eaten pathways.

Finding none,
I dare take your hand,
just in case…

You
look hollowly at
me.

Then, a spectre of a spark
finds the proper passage.

You see me.

And for a heartbeat
of a precious second,

we are Us

again.

Sending a special thank you to Trisha Traughber for the prompt, Strange. Pilgrim, that brought me to write about Alzheimer’s disease.
