In this post, I’ll list down some of the good products that help digital content creators monetise directly from their audience. These will be relevant to you if you have an audience that values your content, whether you run a blog, or a youtube channel. These are categorised based on the kind of business model they support-

To sell memberships:

  1. Patreon: One of the most popular platforms out there. Thousands of creators use patreon to offer tiers of memberships to their top fans. The tiers might start from a dollar a month and can go up to hundreds of dollars every month.
    examples:
Waitbutwhy draws support for their blog through this patreon page. Ted-ed team also uses patreon to gather funds for their educational videos.
Interestingly, patreon provides integrations to give your fans special privileges across other platforms like reddit/discord.

2. Steady: Similar to patreon, steady sets up a recurring monthly membership for your audience to contribute to your mission. Though mainly popular among German creators (as seen on their examples page), the product seems to have most of patreon’s core features.

3. Memberspace: A layer over squarespace websites to turn them into a membership business. See how gilbert’s gazelles’ website features special activities for the runners that are members.

Through donations (one-time/recurring):

4. Buy me a coffee: Super clean product for accepting one time or monthly donations from your fans by showcasing your goals. See a lovely example as seen on ihavenotv.com’s website.

5. Donorbox: Monthly recurring or one time donations mainly used by non profits. See live example as seen on Kidpower’s website.

Locked content (digital downloads/courses):

6. Gumroad: One of the most solid products out there for selling any form of digital content. It lets you build audience, create custom links, offer coupons, and offers features to protect your content.

7. Podia: One of the most complete solutions out there, specially for educational content. It helps creators sell memberships, online courses, digital downloads, and earn money through affiliates. See this beautiful example from the photography page of friedman archives.

8. Teachable: For educators, another great way to sell online courses is through teachable. Minute physics and 52Kards have created courses on teachable.

Some new and promising products:

9. Telemonetise: Lets you monetise your telegram channel/supergroup. You can create a webpage showcasing the membership plan. Viewers can select a membership plan to join your channel/supergroup on telegram.

10. Unlock: Fairly new attempt towards Ethereum based monetisation.

I hope that you’ll check out these products and share your feedback. In case you think that I’ve missed out on a good product, do let me know in comments.

Good wishes to everyone!
