Application Performance Metrics and Monitoring Technologies
There is a strong connection between application performance, customer satisfaction, and business success. Especially for large-scale systems with a high number of users, users expect a fast and seamless experience, while developers and IT professionals constantly strive to meet these expectations.
In this article, I attempted to explain the metrics and monitoring technologies used for identifying performance issues.
Utilizing comprehensive monitoring and analysis tools is crucial for identifying issues affecting application performance. This ensures that any performance degradation or abnormality is detected at an early stage by keeping your system under continuous observation.
Monitoring is an indicator of the healthy and efficient operation of an application. The data feeding into this indicator is called metrics. Some key performance metrics that can be monitored include:
- Response Time: The time taken between receiving a request and providing a response. It directly affects the speed of the application and user experience.
- Error Rates: The ratio of failed requests to total requests. High error rates indicate potential issues.
- Traffic: Indicates the number of requests coming to the application. It is critical for understanding whether system capacity is sufficient.
- Resource Utilization: Shows how much of system resources such as CPU, memory, disk I/O, and…
