Web3 Game Developers Targeted in Crypto Theft Scheme

Several fraudulent Web3 gaming projects have been discovered recently and are reported to have stolen gamers crypto wallets through infostealer drops within said projects. The attackers create fake social media accounts impersonating legitimate game developers to appear authentic to gamers. Upon visiting the fraudulent website to download files for the “game” software, info stealing malware is downloaded to the gamer’s device. The attackers also employ basic phishing techniques to acquire information on potential victims in the belief that Web3 gamers are more vulnerable to attacks, lacking robust cyber security. To protect yourself from such attacks it is important to remain vigilant, adopt mitigation strategies, and acquire effective antivirus software capable of detecting known infostealers.
