Almost two thirds of Canadian millennials want to buy a house in the next five years, but almost half haven’t started saving, according to a survey released on Tuesday by CIBC.

“Millennials want to own, and many plan to do so in the next few years but they’re facing many obstacles and competing financial priorities,” Barry Gollom, CIBC’s Vice President of Mortgages and Lending, said in a release.

More than half of the 864 surveyed millennials — those between 18 and 34 — said their biggest hurdle was coming up with the cash for the required down payment.

Struggling to save: Why millennials can’t buy the houses they want

The biggest reason? The amount they need to save is stratospheric-ally high. Not so bad for anyone with access to the bank of Mom and Dad. But for everyone else, a bit of a crisis, especially in #Vancouver.

If your a millennial, please comment: how are you feeling about Canadian or Vancouver housing prospects?
