Meet Amy Lombard, a photographer and internet native who doesn’t mind being thrown into weird scenarios. She’s the woman that Vice or the New York Times call if they need images from a cat show, a hamburger eating contest or they just need to send a photographer to a strip club for an entire day.

Lombard deals with the strange reactions of strangers often. Most interactions are innocuous, but the strip club is the exception.

Lombard can take it — she revels in the quirky, the flare and the eccentricities. The more tiny dogs in tiaras and Bronies in spandex the better. Lombard connects almost effortlessly and eases into conversation with strangers.

We’re so stoked on Lombard’s energy, hard work and output, we wanted to make a video about her and her work. We’re proud to feature Amy Lombard as the second episode of in situ, an ongoing series of photographer video profiles about the stories behind the pictures.

This film short focuses on Lombard’s work on fanboys, nerds, fetishists and extreme hobbyists who congregate IRL to pursue their niche passions.

Through websites like Meetups.com, Lombard connects with subjects and joins the gathering. It all begin with a Staten Island Pug Pool Party.

Her work on this series is supported partly by VSCO and the financial boon allows Lombard to make photographs every day.

Yo-yo meet-up in Washington Square Park, New York City.

She keeps her schedule packed and jets off to meet the strangest and most wonderful groups of people. As she tells us in the video, some of them are the nicest people she’s ever met.

In the video linked above, Lombard also explains how she works. She talks about sharing work, the theft of work, and why community always wins.

Oh, and hey, male photographers, if you think that access is easier for Amy “because she’s a girl”, newsflash: It’s not.

It’s because she’s more balls than you.
