Chivo’s Instagram Shows Why He Took Home an Oscar
The Revenant’s Emmanuel ‘Chivo’ Lubezki has made Oscar history tonight, becoming the first Cinematographer to win the Oscar in three consecutive years, and just the seventh person in history to win three Oscars in three consecutive years. I speculated in my last article that Lubezki’s record might actually work against him, but the Academy simply couldn’t deny him the trophy. Poor Roger Deakins, though.
Winning for Gravity in 2014 and Birdman in 2015, Lubezki is quickly becoming an awards magnet, and deservedly so. His next project is Weightless, directed by Terrence Malick and starring an ensemble cast including Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Rooney Mara, Cate Blanchett, Benicio del Toro and Michael Fassbender. Don’t be surprised in he’s up for a fourth consecutive Oscar next year.
