Location: Gold Coast Australia is home base but I travel a LOT
Name an iconic sight on this planet and I bet Lauren has seen it in person. Her photos make me want to leave Florida and never come back. I’m a huge fan of color and Lauren is a master of creating vibrant images. Not only does she travel a lot but she seems to only find the most beautiful, lively spots on Earth.
If you’re ever feeling down just scroll through her feed and you’ll remember what a beautiful, lively world we live in and the best part is that she got her start on Instagram! She was kind enough to share a ton of details with me so enjoy her own words and thoughts below!
I have always loved taking photos and can remember having a film camera from around age 8 but I used my camera to take photos of friends mainly. It wasn’t until I got into Instagram 4 ½ years ago that I started to think about creative photography and I started learning on an iPhone 5.
Within a few months I was so into photography and sharing on Instagram that I decided to buy my first professional DSLR camera, a Nikon D7000. Although the price was high for me on chef wages (my old career) , I soon found myself splurging on more lenses, filters and better tripods. I was hooked!
I have many, many sources of inspiration but the biggest one is travel. I love to travel and I love to share that passion with the world using my own unique and seriously random style of photography. I’ve never professed to be an exceptional photographer but I love shooting my day to day life on the road and sharing my stories with the world.
There are so many! I’ve been incredibly fortunate to have gained so many opportunities since quitting my job to become a professional “Instagrammer”. In saying that every good thing that has happened has come off the back of hard work and unrelenting motivation.
Some highlights from last year alone include photographing wild horses from a helicopter in the Kimberly, seeing the Northern Lights in Saariselkä Finland, skiing all throughout New Zealand, skydiving and more helicopter flights than I can count and travel to many new destinations.
Aside from photography opportunities my business continues to flourish as I’ve sold campaigns to Dubai Tourism, The Austrian National Tourist Office, Christchurch and Canterbury Tourism and more. I was nominated for the Gold Coast Women in Business Award in my home city and progressed to the finalist stage and I did my first major Keynote presentation at a social media conference. It was a good year!
I’m currently sitting at Vancouver airport about to head to Whitehorse in the Yukon. I’m hoping to catch the northern lights! After that short trip I’ll be heading to Banff for a few days on the slopes before going home to Australia for some domestic work.
My calendar for the year is almost full with just November and December dates left and a lot of clients still coming back to me. I work hard and do a professional job and I have faith in the industry, it’s a winning combination. I always leave a few days here and there for a break and generally stop work over Christmas for 4-6 weeks. This is now my fourth year of full time work as a travel “influencer”.
My goals have always been to travel, push myself photographically and in business and to deliver great results to the tourism boards and brands that hire me.
