VANTA Network

Brief introduction of VANTA Network.

VANTA is a decentralized and permissionless network that ensures real-time, secure and private connectivity. Through VANTA, both individuals and corporations will be able to develop real-time data transmission services and commercialize those services at low costs. VANTA will eventually allow infinite connectivity among all devices regardless of location.

VANTA’s aim is to allow individuals to create decentralized networks that perform real-time data transmissions as well as process and store that data by selecting intelligent peers, collaborating, and evaluating each other using the VANTA network protocol and the consensus algorithm.

Installing the VANTA core client on your own computer or mobile device or installing applications developed on the VANTA API will allow you to participate. Participants in the network compete with each other in order to receive the data transmission / storage / processing task requested by the network in real time, and perform key tasks such as peer finding & connection (to communicate in a P2P manner), data relaying, caching, processing and verification.

All nodes in the network are evaluated against each other for computing power (cpu), memory, network bandwidth, connection durability, and network contribution. Connection durability refers to how long a node is constantly connected to the network, and the network contribution is the amount of contributions to how many jobs in the network have been processed by a node so far.

Data transmitted over a P2P network may be vulnerable. In order to build a more robust and reliable network from a security perspective, a handshake data for P2P connection is encrypted with the public / private key of the recipient, and as a Transport Layer Protocol for P2P data transmission, the security enhanced Datagram Transport Layer Security (DTLS) Is used. In addition, as a protocol for data / media transmission, a Stream Control Transmission Protocol (SCTP) and a Secure Real-time Transport Protocol (SRTP) protocol for a media stream are used as default. In addition, it uses the Privacy Enhanced RTP Conferencing (PERC) method, which is a double SRTP encryption that enables E2E media data encryption in providing video conferencing functions.

VANTA Consensus Algorithm

A marketplace will existing between nodes that submit jobs and nodes that validate them. A node that needs a job done will submit a job request that maybe picked up by a job tracker. The job is then passed onto a primary worker node, which is backed up by secondary worker nodes. The output is then confirm by a verifier node. A node that submits a job will also submit a price for that job. Other nodes who complete and validate jobs are incentivised to select jobs that a node is willing to pay the most for. The aim is to create a competitive marketplace overtime.

The token will be used in a Proof of Stake (PoS) style consensus model in order to ensure that valid tasks are performed on the network. Proof of Stake is an efficient way to achieve consensus and secure the network. A node can verify tasks by taking a certain number of VANTA tokens (VNT) (the minimum staking requirements are to be determined), and communicate with other staking nodes who with either approve or reject tasks. Developers who want jobs to be processed will also have to stake sufficient VNT to pay worker and verifying nodes. This is important to prevent sybil attacks, by applying a cost to computing on the network, otherwise a malicious user could flood the network with useless jobs. There will be incentives and penalties to reward good and bad participants, the details of which will be released in future announcements.

These are VANTA’s core concepts. However, everything is subject to change as we continuously iterate going forward.

The main research will be carried out by Hanyang University MNI (Mobile & Network Intelligence) Lab. MNI Lab is currently developing and validating the PoC models of the consensus algorithms and data routing algorithms.

We envisage VANTA to be used for a wide range of applications such as human-to-human message / file transfer, voice / video call development, real-time image data streaming to a large number of people, and transmitting / processing various real-time data collected from IoT sensors. Collectively, these markets are valued in the billions of dollars.
