Update on VAD Tokens

Since Varanida became live in January 2018, amongst others undertakings, we successfully launched a prototype. This browser extension took the form of an adblocker and was released on the 25th of May, 2018, date of the GDPR release. Our prototype blocked over 1.5 billion ads and scripts, and has been downloaded tens of thousands of times all over the world. Thanks to all of you!

What’s up with the Verified Ad Token (VAD)?

Unfortunately, back in October we were hit by the ICO-funding-crunch, and didn’t reach our DAICO Softcap. Instead of stubbornly keeping the funds (like many projects…) with almost no chance to drive adoption for the token itself, we decided to reimburse all contributors. After that, we’ve tried to find other ways to fund the Varanida mission but none of them were aligned with our core vision.

Without a proper ICO, it’s very difficult to list a token on a trustworthy exchange, be compliant and make it tradable. As a result the VAD token currently has no value… sorry for the ones of you who were speculating on it. However, a utility token is designed, as its name implies, to be used and to be useful. We have good hope that, down the road, Varanida will develop an ecosystem of partners that would allow VAD token holders to access premium content, redeem discounts, download digital goods etc. So, if you have been accumulating VAD in your wallet through the extension, you should keep them and, more importantly, save your private key*.

The End of the VAD Airdrop

Starting today, no more VAD will be distributed to block ads or to refer new users. A total of 21,000,000 VAD have been distributed to over 170,000 Varanida wallets. VAD Tokens are still virtual, which means there are not on the Ethereum Network, and thus can’t be withdrawn to any other wallet.

Varanida support to Brave Browser

As you might have read, Varanida is teaming up with Brave to bring more more transparency and privacy to the Web. If you want to try Brave (and earn BAT Rewards) you can download it now.

If you are not ready to move to Brave today, you can continue to use the Varranida extension. Varanida will continue to block ads and scripts, and protect your privacy while browsing on Chrome and Firefox; however no more VAD will be added to your balance.

*Note that if you have lost your private key, it will be impossible for us (or for anybody) to recover your wallet, and your tokens will be lost.
