Creating A Watermark In Vectr

How can you sign your art in the digital world? Painters usually put signatures or initials on their works to sign them. However, there is a great solution for photographers as well — just to put a watermark. Why watermark?

Once you`ve posted your photo online there is no ability to control it. People have an opportunity to steal your masterpiece in a second or two. Just right click -> save to the desktop and that’s it. They can use it for any purposes and claim your images to be their own. So, in this case, a watermark can be a really good way to save your rights on your works ☝️

The second reason for using watermarks is marketing and branding. It is a kind of extension of the brand. When a person finds one of your works and is amazed by it, they would like to check out more works. A watermark is a perfect way to provide people with contact or website information, studio name or at least personal name. So, making your pieces of art identifiable can help viewers to find you and your works easily.

Think over a really good watermark. Your choice may be endless. You can either put your name or simply reproduce your signature. But be sure it will play into the hands. You usually put a lot of efforts to create your work, so you need to put enough efforts to design a proper watermark as well.
Find a suitable place for placing a watermark. It should not spoil your work: it should both take a viewer`s eye but should not overlay important parts of your piece of art.
Finally, choose an appropriate size for your «sign». It should be readable, otherwise, what is the purpose of it? And of course, it should not be enormously large so that you can`t tell what the image underneath looks like.
Creating an awesome watermark in Vectr is really easy. Moreover, they are scalable, never pixelized and you can put them in print. Let`s start! 😉

STEP 1

Setting the size of the page is a good thing to begin with. You can do it in the “Page Settings” section in the left bottom corner after you change the side menu from “Layers” to “Pages”.

STEP 2

Then you can start the process of the watermark’s creation by adding the text. The Text tool in the left toolbar will suit this purpose perfectly!

STEP 3

There are two ways to resize the text. Firstly, you are able to drag the anchor points of the textbox in order to enlarge it. Secondly, you can change its size in the “Font” section at the top right corner. Furthermore, the coloring tools are also placed there. Don’t forget, you can always paste the color code instead of searching the required color.

STEP 4

Use the pen tool to decorate the watermark with the lines which are also resizable and can be colored in the same way as the text.

STEP 5

In Vectr many different fonts are given for your use. Choose the one you like most of all to make the watermark really cool and unforgettable!

STEP 6

At the end, save the watermark to your PC using the “Export” button as it is shown on the GIF. We recommend you to save the file in PNG or SVG because these file formats have a transparent background and great resolution.
