Even after working 2 years at a major ERP company, I felt at a loss when it came to what career path to pursue going forward. I enjoyed talking to people to understand and improve their processes and I also liked diving deep and optimizing the technical intricacies of the solutions. These two seemed like conflicting approaches and I was far from sure which aspect was closest to my heart.

The job I held felt like an arrow pointed at a target. But I still wanted to expand my horizons and explore new opportunities. After a tedious search, I stumbled upon Veeva’s Consultant Development Program (CDP). It stood out because it promised exactly what I was looking for: the opportunity to try myself in different roles.

During the interview process, I was captivated by how direct I could talk to even higher management and the time and effort people took to give proper feedback after each session, even though I was merely another prospect at that time.

After I joined, I became part of the Professional Services team working closely with customers on new implementations to better their existing processes. I held various roles from business analyst to developer, gathering requirements, introducing brand new modules for new customers, implementing additional functionalities for long-standing clients, integrating data across systems, and even the occasional issue handling.

The supportive environment of Veeva’s Consultant Development Program made all of this possible, providing an opportunity to learn and grow alongside some of the best and most experienced colleagues in the field. During this time, what set Veeva apart, was how ready everybody was to offer assistance and guidance, even if it meant sacrificing some of their own personal time.

It quickly turned out that I had some affinity for writing and understanding code from my university years. Building on this, I was part of more and more technically oriented projects, driven by my

personal preferences. All the while I consistently received extensive feedback from both my manager and the teams I was working with, I felt throughout the process that the ultimate decision on the direction to pursue largely rested in my hands. This was precisely the reason why I decided to join CDP, and it stood out as the most important aspect for me: To be able to try different things, get honest feedback on your strengths and weaknesses, and to have the opportunity to choose for yourself which turns to take.

So, this is how I naturally evolved to become part of the Technical Services team where I am now. The team handles a wide array of issues that require a deep dive into the technical aspects of the implementations, ranging from system integrations to custom functionalities through rooting out unexpected errors. But this does not mean that we stare at lines of code all day. We actively engage with customers, understanding their goals, to craft optimal solutions together. This approach allows ample room for creativity and flexibility in our day-to-day work.

In hindsight, it has been a fulfilling journey, I tried myself at various roles in a big enterprise and finally was able to land on the one I found most intriguing and promising. Along the way, I was surrounded by great people always ready to provide help, guidance, or support whenever needed.

Overall, if you are unsure yet in exactly which direction to move, and would like to see more of what the information technology consulting scene can offer I would highly recommend giving Veeva CDP a serious thought!
