So you want to be a Game Changer?

You saw the movie, you are inspired and practically convinced! but there is one small problem. You’re unsure where to start with the new year coming up and all the information that just came out in the last six months about climate change and the meat industry we can only imagine the millions of questions and concerns running through your mind about changing your lifestyle.

Step 1:

Do Your OWN Moral Research. Knowing what your goals are for changing your diet is the key to being able to stick with it. Not having a clearly defined goal makes it easy for you to lose sight of the reason you switched in the first place.
💚Ethics/Politics of being a vegan
💚Environmental footprint/ Social convictions.
💚A friend recently switched their diet and changed for the better.
💚A health issue: long term or recent.
💚Weight loss benefits.
💚Wanting to “feel light” or mental clarity.
ALL are good and ALL are valid. Be mindful of who you are and what you stand for that is what is important here.

Step 2:

What Does Plant-Based Mean?
As you’re researching veganism and plant-based diets, you’re likely to come across the following terminology. Here are some quick definitions to cut through all the confusion:
🍴 Vegetarian: Usually, when someone says they’re a vegetarian they mean lacto-ovo-vegetarian. This means they don’t eat any seafood, poultry, or red meat but DO consume eggs, dairy, and honey. Basically, they don’t eat animals but are fine with products from them.
🍴 Plant-Based: Following a plant-based diet means eating more plants, plant proteins and cutting back on animal products, but maybe not entirely, some people include small amounts of animal products.
🍴 Whole Food Plant-Based: a diet based on whole, unrefined or minimally refined plant foods and excludes or minimizes meat, dairy products, eggs, and highly refined foods such as bleached flour, refined sugar, and oil while consuming mostly fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes.
🍴 Vegan: Followers don’t consume ANY animals or animal products whatsoever. They often don’t use other goods that come from animals such as leather and wool due to their ethical stance.
🍴 Raw Vegan: Vegans who eat only raw plant-based foods that haven’t been heated over 108 degrees Fahrenheit. They believe alkaline raw foods contain beneficial enzymes that cooking destroys.

Step 3:

Keep Calm And Be Mindful! and by that we mean don’t forget to indulge❤️ Be proud and whole with your decision, but don’t let it consume your brain. You have to do what’s good for you at the end of the day but keep your goals in mind. It’s ok to indulge in unhealthy options every once in a while, because of the amazing awareness of veganism and plant-based lifestyles there is a yummy alternative for EVERYTHING. We suggest finding a plant-based or vegan support group! There are tons of them online and you will be surprised how accepting they are and how many new friends you will make!
