Fall is here! (well, at least according to the calendar)

It’s official: today is the first day of Fall! However, while we’ve been enjoying the wonderful weather this week on the farm, we can’t say that Fall has truly arrived just yet, since next week temperatures will be back in the mid-90s. We’ve definitely appreciated this taste of the coming season though, and are looking forward to the return of cool-weather crops like lettuce, kale, and beets. We spent time in our new tomato patch this week, repairing irrigation, trellising, and weeding, so while the days get shorter and cooler, our summer staples like tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers will keep chugging along.

Our second round of tomatoes is looking gorgeous, and should keep us well-supplied through the end of October.

Since last week’s Farm Stand email, Veggielution has had two very successful events off the farm. This past Sunday, the food truck made its off-site debut at Viva Calle SJ, cranking out delicious foods prepared by Veggielution community chefs. The green tamales in particular, featuring jalapeños and bell peppers from the farm, were a huge hit! And on Wednesday, our team saw lots of familiar faces and made new friends at Park Station Hashery, where 25% of the restaurant’s total sales for the day were generously donated to Veggielution. Chef Louis Silva prepared a special menu featuring produce from the farm, and guests were apparently putting in requests for the Veggielution dishes to be added to the regular menu! A huge thank you from Jason and I is owed to our coworkers, in particular Rosa, Emily, and Cayce, for organizing both of these incredible events and creating opportunities to share what we grow with the broader San Jose community.
