South Bay solidarity with our North Bay neighbors

As seems to be the case more often than not these days, this week was dominated by natural disaster. The North Bay wildfires have been at the forefront of our minds, especially with the extent to which poor air quality in San Jose has affected our work. Jason and I have limited our time in the field to reduce our exposure, and the farm crew is protecting ourselves with properly-rated respiratory masks. With family and friends affected by the fires, Jason and I have definitely had a tough week. Our thoughts are with everyone affected, especially farmers and farmworkers, and the incarcerated women fighting the fires for less than $1 per hour.

If you’re as overwhelmed as we feel and are looking to make sense of things and help out, here are some resources that Jason compiled yesterday:

California Statewide Fire Summary

Air Quality Advisory and Health Tips

How to help: Volunteer, donate food, supplies, money to support Sonoma County fire victims

PG&E power lines linked to Wine Country fires

The Toxic Air in California Is a Public Health Crisis

In the midst of this natural disaster, whose effects are being felt here in the South Bay, people still need to eat, so the Farm Stand will remain open tomorrow. We’ll see you there.
