AI Forced Self-Driving Liability

The elephant in the room regarding self-driving vehicles is who bears the responsibility? Obviously big name manufacturers do not want to tarnish their name and bear the financial burden of liability issues.

Though clearly if the vehicles are self-driving and humans are not in the control loop, the human is not able to be held liable or responsible.

So, what’s the easiest way to address this? Fall back to the software algorithms and program “intelligent agents” that make smart decisions as to when the “intelligent agents” are not able to comprehend or handle a situation to automatically hand over to the human driver.

Sounds far fetched, right? It’s being marketed today as the AI managing the human.

Or more succinctly, holding the human driver responsible so that the AI is not liable.
