The oncoming IoT security and privacy onslaught is already upon us. The influx of self-driving vehicles will only amplify this effect.

At the end of the day, who holds the manufacturers accountable? Who verifies and validates the software? Who has access to the data? How is the vehicle actually “trained” and with what data (e.g., hint it might be a mixture of real driving data and video game data).

Their have been recent stories regarding Tesla and the ownership of data. Tesla has quickly shot back saying “Autopilot has been shown to save lives and reduce accident rates, and we believe it is important that the public have a factual understanding of our technology,” said a company spokesperson in an email.

The facts disclosed to the California DMV state that drivers must re-engage approximately every third mile, so is it factually accurate to market Tesla as autopilot?
